Lake Huron June 2023 OIL!
This is not really going to be a long blog and we had no intentions of blogging this 5 week getaway, but...
We just had to post a couple of pics and information. Besides, I had a couple of folks wonder if we were going to blog...seems that a few actually like to hear about our adventures.
We found this camp last year on our way home from our 6 month out west trip. Lakewood Christian Family Camp was originally a church camp that later was sold/taken over by a group of seasonal campers and then by a family. It is a nice, friendly quiet camp with many seasonal campers. We liked it enough to book it this year for a month.
Another reason we like this park is it is close to various trails / rail trails and cycling routes that we have been riding:
Here's a great shot near Bright's Cove...beautiful cycling along the Lake Huron shore line.
Bluewater Bridge, Sarnia
Not to mention a stop at a local coffee roaster to add to Jerry's collection. (If you are an RV'r, the name "Blackwater" is not a good choice for a product. LOL)
AND...a visit to the Oil Museum of Canada National Historic Site in Oil Springs.
When I mention "OIL" I'll bet you think of Alberta or Texas or Saudi Arabia or Russia???
WELL
This is the site of the first commercial oil wells, the birthplace of the Oil Industry in North America! In 1861, oil was found abundant in the "Gum Beds" of a 50 acre site and Hundreds of Thousands of of barrels of oil flowed. It literally seeped from the ground. If you are ever this way, go to this museum. It's a piece of history few of us know.
It was amazing! After touring the museum (of course on a rainy day), we took the car tour/Historical Trail where some land owners are still pumping oil using the original (Canadian) invented methods of "jerk lines". Some of these pioneers travelled internationally to contract their knowledge to other countries.
We are looking forward to some of the family camping/joining us for Father's Day weekend!!
So for now,

“Life is short. We don't have much time to gladden the hearts of those who walk this way with us. So, be swift to love and make haste to be kind.” (Henri-Frédéric Amiel)
